Primary Objectives

Recruit  Retain Support
Goals 1. Increase the staff to faculty ratio comparable to regional engineering colleges granting PhDs.

2. Maintain a staff skills and abilities appropriate for their positions.

1. Staff will be compensated at a level comparable to equivalent positions in industry.

2. Develop a teamwork concept between faculty and staff.

1. Staff will have suitable space, technology, training, and policies in order to accomplish their assigned tasks.
Action Plans 1.a. Develop information to support requests to the University and State for additional staff positions.

1.b. Work with the Human Resources Office to upgrade clerical and technician positions.

2. Identify funding sources for staff development.

1. Work with the Office of Human Resources to upgrade the positions of staff members as soon as is appropriate.

2. Include both faculty and staff in such activities as isappropriate, both at the College and Departmentallevels.

1. Assess the space, technology, and training needs of staff.
Evaluation 1. Compare staff levels to the national level for engineering colleges with comparable teaching and research responsibilities

2. Compare skill level of staff with that of other PhD granting engineering programs.

1. Compare total compensation package to that available in the local market for similar skills.

2. Monitor those activities where faculty/staff teamwork is desirable and the level of teamwork that is observed.

1. Monitor the level of investment in staff office/equipment as compared to similar programs.
Decisions 1. The College and will decide on the amount of faculty release to allocate to staff positions.

2. The College will decide on the amount to allocate to staff development.
