The College of Engineering shares in Wichita State University's "commitment to providing comprehensive educational opportunities in an urban setting" and "commitment to the highest ideals of teaching, scholarship, and public service, as the University strives to be a comprehensive, metropolitan university of national stature." The College has developed and adopted the following Vision, Mission, and Beliefs statement.

The College has also developed an accountability matrix in response to the vision of President Don Beggs. The accountability matrix of the College has been formulated, extensively discussed and accepted by all the constituencies of the college. Mission

To have national recognition as a metropolitan-based College of Engineering with strong undergraduate and graduate degree programs, major collaborative efforts with industry, and respected research programs.

Vision

For Students - To provide appropriately accredited quality engineering education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels that is enhanced by the metropolitan setting and prepares graduates for engineering practice and advanced education.

For Academic Development - To develop faculty and resources to create and apply new knowledge and to impart and disseminate this information in ways that will enhance education and contribute to social and economic well-being locally, regionally, nationally and internationally through a program of continuous improvement.

For Community - To be engaged in the surrounding metropolitan community by appropriate participation in and support of business, professional, cultural, and social activities.

Beliefs
  • Each member of the College of Engineering Community (faculty, staff, and students) is responsible for maintaining high expectations based on professional and ethical standards for the efforts and performance of the College Community.
  • Each member of the College of Engineering Community is an ambassador for the university and will strive to treat our visitors and customers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Each member of the College of Engineering Community is responsible for making recommendations and decisions that will improve the quality of education, scholarly effort, and service to the university and the community.
  • Each member of the College of Engineering Community is entitled to a safe working place and to be treated with respect.
  • Each member of the College of Engineering Community will contribute in different ways to the success and continued development of the college and all will recognize that strength lies in the considered and effective use of these varied contributions.
  • Each employee of the College of Engineering is entitled to reasonable compensation and equal opportunities for promotion and retention.
Accountability Matrix

The final draft of the matrix for fiscal year 2003 starting on July 1, 2002  has been given approval in a College wide meeting on November 2, 2001.
